ALBUQUERQUE – In a disappointing display of extreme partisanship, New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver has requested more time to respond to a court case regarding the transferring of campaign funds into Congressman Steve Pearce's gubernatorial campaign. Congressman Pearce was forced to file the lawsuit against Toulouse Oliver after she communicated that the Pearce campaign could not transfer federal campaign funds to a state account, reversing the opinion of her predecessor and changing course on a previous court in favor of the transfer for then congressman, Bill Richardson.

Foreseeing the inevitable court decision in favor of Pearce, the Democrat Secretary of State is now dragging her feet in the legal battle, which she created. Not wanting to face the judge alone, she had fellow Democrat and current Attorney General Hector Balderas file the motion for her. Balderas has declared his open support for Pearce's opponent Michelle Lujan Grisham. It seems that this is just the latest example of Democrats in elected office playing politics to hinder Republican opposition.

"Hector Balderas and Maggie Toulouse Oliver's attempt to dismiss an established precedent so that the odds are stacked up against the Republican candidate is very clear and disappointing," said Dominic Pacheco, Spokesman for the Republican Party of New Mexico. "It seems blatantly evident that these elected officials are reaching beyond normal government duties to ensure democratic candidates have an advantage. New Mexicans deserve better from our elected officials."
