ALBUQUERQUE – Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham is once again attempting to use DACA to score political points, this time voting to shut down the government in order to attempt to force a full reinstatement of President Obama's unconstitutional immigration program. After realizing the peril of her actions, Lujan Grisham is attempting to change courses by railing against the very stance she took.

"Michelle Lujan Grisham has demonstrated over and over again that her top priority in Washington is scoring political points rather than leadership," said RPNM Chairman Ryan Cangiolosi. "Lujan Grisham has failed to work with Republicans to resolve the DACA issue and fix our broken immigration system. Instead, she's resorting to political stunts and then denying her own actions when she realizes how unpopular they are. Leadership is taking a stand on behalf of New Mexicans and searching for a solution, not saying one thing and doing another."

Today's Albuquerque Journal (1/4/18) reports: "Lujan Grisham told the Journal on Wednesday that nobody wants a government shutdown."

But the record clearly shows Michelle Lujan Grisham held the opposite view in December when she voted against government funding and led a protest to shut down the government without a DACA amnesty provision.

The Journal makes Lujan Grisham's position clear: "In late December, Reps. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a New Mexico Democrat who chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, who chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, both voted against a stopgap spending bill to keep the government open until Jan. 19 because it didn't include a provision to address the DACA issue."

On December 21st, according to The Washington Post's Ed O'Keefe, the entire 31-member House Hispanic Caucus showed up at Schumer's office demanding an opportunity to meet with Senate leadership to discuss why Democrats had given into Republicans, passing a temporary funding extension without demanding the President cave on the DREAM Act.

"Try as she might, Michelle Lujan Grisham can't hide from her vote to play politics with immigration in order to force a government shutdown," Cangiolosi added.
