Deming Headlight:
Gary Johnson Shouts Expletive
During Mick Rich Answer to Audience Question

DEMING – U.S. Senate Candidate Gary Johnson of the New Mexico Libertarian Party shouted bull___t during Republican candidate Mick Rich’s answer to an audience question at the Deming 2018 Chamber Candidate Forum on Thursday hosted by the First United Methodist Church.

What is the overall purpose of the senate? Led Rich to give the public his intake that the title of a U.S. senator is about building relationships and said there needs to be more effort on coming together and building these relationships in Congress for the benefit of the country. Rich later stated how he differs as a candidate.

“I am a Catholic, I am Christian-Catholic, and I believe in the sanctity of life,” Rich said. “I am the only one running for the U.S Senate that doesn’t believe that abortion up to the point of delivery is okay.”

“That’s bull___t,” Johnson claimed.

Rich continued with his response on his beliefs against open borders and sanctuary cities all of which are contradictions to Johnson’s answers made prior to the Republican candidate.

Johnson described the duties of a U.S. senator’s title and then noted what’s at stake in the election. “Is potentially the swing vote,” Johnson said.

During opening statements both Johnson and Rich expressed intended actions if elected. Johnson would take on the national deficit by reforming Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, while Rich would implement good paying jobs, safe communities and a school system that works for New Mexico children.

Johnson later apologized for the comment.

“I apologize Mick for having said bull___t, but does anybody support abortion up to the last minute?” Johnson asked. “When I was governor of New Mexico Right to Life gave me an “A” for my effort, but do I believe that a woman should have a right to choose… yes, I believe a woman has the right to choose.”

Both candidates are challenging incumbent D-Martin Heinrich, to whom he had a stand-in representative announcing the main issues he will address if elected for a second six-year term. Heinrich will focus on renewable energy jobs, boosting trade and investing in infrastructure and specified that each cause could strengthen economic opportunities in Deming and Luna County.
