SANTA FE, NM—House Republican Whip Rod Montoya (R-Farmington) released the following statement after attending Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Energy Summit earlier today:

“Governor Lujan Grisham's Energy Summit today made one thing crystal clear: the governor wants to eliminate the industry that’s responsible for 45% of the state’s budget without having a plan to replace this funding. Other states don't depend on oil and gas revenues as much as we do. Those states might be able to afford the type of energy transitions our governor is proposing. It will be tougher in New Mexico. Without a plan, there is only one option for replacing oil and gas revenues once fossil fuels have been phased out—more taxes. New Mexicans need to brace themselves for the looming tax apocalypse on the horizon. Do we need to remind our governor that this is New Mexico, not California?”
