Albuquerque, NM - New Mexico Democrats including Sen. Tom Udall, Sen. Martin Heinrich, Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Rep. Ben Ray Lujan are staging a childish "sit-in" on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, protesting the unwillingness of House Republicans to violate the 2nd, 4th and 5th Amendments of the Constitution.

Democrats are trying to force Republicans to vote on a bill that would deny Americans on the unaccountable and secretive "no-fly list" and "terror watch list" the ability to buy a gun, denying them the due process rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

"Republicans in the Senate tried earlier this week to pass a common-sense bill that would help keep dangerous guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists without impeding upon anyone's right to due process, but Democrats aren't looking for solutions. They're looking to grandstand in support of an unconstitutional cause," said Republican Party of New Mexico Spokesman Tucker Keene. "Many liberal organizations including the ACLU have come out against this bill because of its indefensible disrespect for the basic rights ingrained in our Constitution. But Ben Ray Lujan, Michelle Lujan Grisham, Martin Heinrich and Tom Udall are sitting on the floor of the House anyway."

Liberal publications like Gawker and Slate have both come out to say, joining the ACLU, that the plan is poorly formed, unconstitutional and does more to satisfy the urge for Democrats to "do something" in the wake of a tragedy than it does to solve real problems. The spectacle New Mexico's Congressional Democrats are putting on is further evidence that the Democrats are fundamentally unserious.

"The childish behavior of New Mexico's Congressional Democrats has been truly embarrassing," said Keene. "Antics like this are precisely why voters in New Mexico and elsewhere are so fed up with D.C. politicians that are more interested in grandstanding and symbolism than in meaningful progress toward solving the issues facing our country. The voters will remember Rep. Lujan Grisham's and Rep. Lujan's sanctimonious stunt tonight when they enter the voting booths in November."
