The Grant County Democratic Party is sponsoring its Third Annual Labor Day Pancake Breakfast, Monday, September 1, 2014, from 8:30 to 11:00 am at Gough Park. The price for breakfast is only $5, and everyone is invited.

"This is our way to recognize the contribution of workers to our community," said Frances Vasquez, GCDP Secretary and event chair. "We've invited all the local unions, from AFCSME to the Teacher's Union to join us for a fun and meaningful time."

Senator Howie Morales will address the crowd. State and local elected officials and candidates, including Sheriff Raul Villanueva and District 38 candidate Terry Fortenberry, will flip pancakes and fry bacon, serve coffee and orange juice, and do some entertaining too.

Auctioneering bags of rocks to raise funds for the upcoming election tests candidates' ability to convince folks of their persuasiveness, and there will be prizes. "We want families to come out," GCDP Chair Mary Hotvedt said. "We'll have music and prizes for kids' games also."

County Assessor Candidate Raul Turrieta says, "I'll be spreading the word at the Chicano Music Fest about how important it is to come together to recognize the contribution of working men and women to the Grant County community." Raul will be joining his fellow candidates in putting on the breakfast.

The MC will be the ever humorous and entertaining Nick Seibel, editor of the Silver City Daily Press.

"We depend on labor to fight for dignified working conditions and living wages. Celebrating Labor Day in our community has a long and proud heritage in that regard," says Grant County Democratic Party Vice Chair Magdaleno Manzanarez.
