The Silver City Public Library will be hosting an open house on Thursday, October 30, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm to tell the community about their free technology training project.

Last March the library received $15,000 from the Freeport-McMoran Community Investment Fund to create a mobile computer lab and begin the project, entitled Digital Literacy Training: 21st Century Skills for a Sustainable Grant County. Community partners include New Mexico Workforce Connection, the New Mexico Small Business Development Center, WNMU Adult Education Services, the Silver City Arts and Cultural District, the Bayard Public Library, and Literacy Link-Leamos.

During the October 30 open house, the mobile computer lab will be set up for viewing, and attendees will have an opportunity to hear about the importance of digital skill-building for economic development, jobs, and quality of life. Guest speakers will begin at 5:00pm and will include Christine Logan, Community, Business and Rural Development Representative at the New Mexico Economic Development Department; Kim Clark, Association Executive of the Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS; and Lynda Aiman-Smith, Silver City Town Councilor.

The Silver City Public Library is located at 515 W. College Avenue in Silver City. Details about the digital literacy project can be found online at http://silvercitypubliclibrary.wordpress.com/digital-literacy. For more information, contact Lillian at 575-538-3672 or ref@silvercitymail.com.
