Walk4Heros2015Silver City, NM - The sixth annual James H. Pirtle Walk For The Heroes fundraiser will take place Saturday, September 26 and registration is now open for walkers and bikers who would like to participate.

The annual event raises funds for local military charities.

Participants can register through www.walkfortheheroes.com. Registration is $20 per person and includes an official event shirt and lunch. The start line of the 7 mile route for walkers is at the Mr. Stevens old storefront in Hurley, New Mexico at 8:00 a.m. The ending location is Bataan Park in Santa Clara, NM.

The walk is named after James H. Pirtle, an army specialist who became the first New Mexican to be killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom in October of 2003. Pirtle's mother resides in Silver City.

In support of the event, a Smothered Burrito Sale will take place Friday, August 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus building in Silver City. Call Liz Lopez at 575.654.8141 to place an order. Cost is $7 per plate and includes a burrito, rice and salad.
