Mitch Lyons RSThe Mimbres Region Arts Council (MRAC) announces a Monoprint Workshop with Southwest Print Fiesta! Mitch Lyons, Artist-in-Residence, Sunday, September 4, from 12:00 - 6:00 pm at Syzygy Tile, 106 North Bullard., Silver City, NM.

The Southwest Print Fiesta! is a celebration for art lovers, art collectors, artists, families and anyone interested in all things printed and will take place Saturday, September 3rd on Yankie Street and the Seedboat Gallery, 214 Yankie St., Silver City, NM.

Mitch Lyons, Southwest Print Fiesta! guest artist, pioneered image making from a slab of clay. This one of a kind workshop will teach techniques of monoprinting from clay. He will share how a slab of stoneware clay is prepared for printing and how colored slips are applied to the clay. Followed by intricate steps to a finished monoprint.

His clay monoprints can be found in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Woodmere Museum, American University and the University of Delaware.

Lyons has had exhibitions of his work at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; Noyes Museum, New Jersey; Kalmar Lans Museum, Kalmar, Sweden; and the Vonderau Museum, Fulda, Germany. He is a recipient of Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Visual Arts Grant. He has taught at West Chester University, Moore College of Art, Rowan University, Alfred University, and the University of Delaware.

Mitch Lyons earned his Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Ceramics from Tyler School of Art, and his Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Graphics from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Mitch's original monoprints will be available for purchase during the Southwest Print Fiesta! on Saturday, September 3rd, and Mitch's guest artist reception Friday, September 2, 6:00 pm, at the Murray Ryan Visitors Center, 201 North Hudson and during the Monoprint Workshop on Sunday, September 4.
