Saturday, October 15 is International Archaeology Day. The Mimbres Culture Heritage Site will celebrate with an open house from 9:30 am to 3 pm, sponsored by the Grant County Archaeology Society and the Imogen F. Wilson Education Foundation.

At 10:30 am, the filming of the reenactment of the 1902 Gooch Murder Story will take place for the public to see.

At noon and 2:15, Marilyn Markel will give a tour of the Mattocks Ruin Archaeology Site.

The museum and 1882 Granville Wood doctor's office will be open all day.

Visitors should see the new model of the Mattocks Ruin prehistoric community, built to scale by William Hudson.

If you haven't seen the replica gourds of images uncovered by archaeologists on the site, this is another opportunity.

The gift shop will be open with its unique and one-of-a-kind gifts.

From 1-2 pm, the River's Bend Band will play light gospel music on the porch. Bring your lawn chair and relax while listening.

The event is free, but donations help us keep the doors open and the lights on.

We aren't hard to find, located just past the Mimbres Cafe on highway 35, mile marker 3.7 on Sage Drive. Come see the Gooch/Mattocks house, sit under the porches and have a picnic lunch with the family. But come and visit the newest museum in the Grant County area. It's loaded with history.
