PFLAG Silver City will host its 6th annual scholarship benefit dance on April 1, 8:00 to 11:00 PM, at the Old Elks Lodge, 315 N. Texas in Silver City. This year's theme is "Rhythm and Blues and Rainbows Too!"

Proceeds fund the Nancy Kailing Memorial Scholarship at Western New Mexico University. The scholarship is open to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and gender queer students and their allies. Nancy Kailing was the founder of PFLAG Fairbanks, a former president of PFLAG Silver City, and a fierce advocate for the rights of LGBTQ people. PFLAG is the nation's largest family and ally organization.

Brandon Perrault and Friends will provide music, and Vicki's Eatery will be selling beer, wine, calzones, and pizza. Mitch Hellman will serve as MC. Vintage Fantasies is promoting the dance with a collection of Blues Brothers-inspired clothing and accessories. There will be contests and prizes for Best Costume, Best Dancing, and Best Sideburns. All ages are welcome.

"We celebrate Nancy Kailing's life and her devotion to equality for LGBTQ persons at this event, and our scholarship at WNMU benefits. Find your fedora, your shades, and your skinny tie, and come out and dance," said Damie Nelson, PFLAG Silver City president.

Cost is $10 per person; $5 for WNMU students with a valid current ID. Vintage Fantasies has advance tickets available. For more information, call Damie Nelson at 590-8797.
