Tri-City Buzzards Will Play a Free Concert at the Silver City Museum this Sunday, June 8, from 11 am to 1 pm in Conjunction with the Current Exhibit, Parece Que Fue Ayer: Grant County Chicano Music Project

Formerly the "Buffalo Bar Band," the Tri-City Buzzards or "TCB Band" is a trio of veteran musicians who will play this Sunday, June 8, from 11 am to 1 pm in the Silver City Museum Courtyard. The Silver City Museum is located at 312 W. Broadway, in Silver City.

Guitarist, bass, keyboard and vocalist Omar Holguin, has played across the United States and with many past local groups in the Grant County area. Holguin is also an area music educator and member of the Illusion Band. Bass, guitar, and lead vocalist Jesse Lozano has also been playing music for many years both here and abroad and has remarked at his fortune to end up living across the street from Omar and becoming both a friend and now band member. George Montoya has played drums locally for over 25 years and is also sharing vocals in the group with Jesse. Their music is described as "country to cumbia" and everything in between.

At 12 noon, learn how a committee of local Chicano music enthusiasts and musicians worked together to reconstruct part of the musical history of the county. Brian Freeman will give a gallery talk in conjunction with the exhibit, Parece Que Fue Ayer: Grant County Chicano Music Project.

To continue in its efforts to preserve the important history of Chicano music in Grant County, and to encourage and support the creative expression of current and future musicians from the area, the Chicano Music Project is working with the Silver City Museum to present a selection of photographs and memorabilia from the original 2013 exhibit and viewings of the DVD movie, Parece Que Fue Ayer: A Celebration of Grant County Chicano Musicians.

Performance playbills, stage clothes, records, instruments, and photos help to bring back a time and memories, very close to many of a school dance or club performance. To name just a few, band photos of La Rondalla Santa Rita, Zeke and the Ambassadors, Cuchillo, and Freddy and Starlighters will be in the exhibit.

This exhibit is made possible thanks to the dedicated work of the Grant County Chicano Music Project. Funding in part for all exhibits and programs at the museum is made possible by the generous support of the members and volunteers of the Silver City Museum Society.

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching and interpreting the regions unique history.
