Photo: The Lovely Gila by Louise Phillips

The Silver City Museum in collaboration with the Gila National Forest, and in conjunction with the exhibit, Gila Wild: A Celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Gila Wilderness and the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, will host artist Louise Phillips Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 12 pm to 1 pm. The Silver City Museum is located at 312 W. Broadway.

Come and meet artist Louise Phillips, who painted, The Lovely Gila, which hangs in the Gila National Forest Supervisor's office. The painting will be available for viewing. Postcards of the painting will be available for Louise to sign. Bring a sack lunch to eat in the museum's courtyard and enjoy dessert provided by the Forest Service.

Writer/artist Louise Phillips lives in Washington, D.C. She is passionate about bringing youth and earth together through the arts. Louise has dedicated her life to inspiring others, especially children. She began her career as a kindergarten teacher. Her late husband helped her with the idea of inspiring children with the arts to conserve nature. To build a bridge between children and the earth she has written several children's books and created paintings. Louise is currently collaborating on a project to incorporate music into programs for the purpose of encouraging young people to be interested in the National Parks and National Forests.

Funding and content for the Gila Wild exhibit was made in cooperation with the Gila National Forest.
