On December 31, 1946, President Truman officially declared the end of World War II
with Proclamation 2714. Each year, beginning in 1986, people from around the world
have gathered on December 31 to collectively seek peace and healing. Many walk a
labyrinth to meditate.

The global meeting time for meditation is 12:00 noon Greenwich Mean Time, when it is
December 31 everywhere in the world -- which translates to 5 am New Mexico time.
The Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths in Glenwood will be open at 4:30 am for those who
want to participate in the international day of healing. Contact Cordelia Rose for more
information at 575-313-1002.

Late sleepers can still walk a labyrinth in Silver City. The Adobe Labyrinth at the
Historic Waterworks, 1721 Little Walnut Road, will be available from 10:00 am to 2:00
pm on December 31. Only the walk gates will be open, and parking is limited. Please
park at the Jose Barrios School or park on Virginia Street and cross the bridge from the
Silva Creek Botanical Gardens. See www.tscwaterworks.org  for more information on the
Silver City Waterworks and its labyrinth, or find a labyrinth near you at the World Wide
Labyrinth Locator, www.labyrinthlocator.com .
