Silver City, NM — CLAY Festival, which runs from July 16 - July 21, has several lectures scheduled throughout the week presented by artists, conservationists and cultural experts.

On Monday, July 16, anthropologist, historian, preservation planner, and teacher Pete Eidenbach will examine the history of the La Luz Pottery Factory in his lecture "Rowland Hazard III and the La Luz Pottery Factory" at Seedboat Gallery from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In conjunction with the lecture, there will be an exhibit of La Luz pottery on display at the Tatiana Maria Gallery starting Tuesday and running throughout the festival.

The La Luz Pottery Factory was built in 1930 and is one of the most important historic sites in Otero County, N.M. The property, now owned by the Tularosa Basin Historical Society, contains some 235 acres and includes the "Pottery," which produced Spanish-style red barrel Mission tiles used throughout the region on residences in La Luz, Tularosa, Alamogordo and on St. Joseph's Mission church in Mescalero.

All the week's lectures are $10, and prepaying for the week's lectures is encouraged. You can register online at https://www.clayfestival.com/store/c10/Lectures. For information about other CLAY happenings, visit www.clayfestival.com.
