Enjoy the beauty of nature in air-conditioned comfort this Labor Day Weekend as the Grant County Rolling Stones Gem and Mineral Society will hold their 35th Annual Gem & Mineral Show in the Grant County Veterans' Memorial Conference Center, 3031 Highway 180 East in Silver City, New Mexico. Come inside the spacious Center and walk through 4 large rooms of amazing vendor displays and enjoy the club's Wheel of Fortune and Silent Auction.

Hours are 9 to 5 Saturday, September 1, 10 to 5 Sunday, September 2, and 10 to 4 Monday, September 3. Admission is free! This is a great family event. This 3 day event includes several additional opportunities. There will be daily off-site collecting Field Trips leaving the front door of the Convention Center at 9 a.m.

Saturday's trip will be to the Thompson Fluorite mine, Sunday's trip will be to the Club's Geode Claim, and Monday's trip will be to a new location, the Copperas Agate Area. Field trips are open to the public, but you must sign up at the front door, bring your own tools, water and transportation. Car pooling is advised as some sites have limited parking. Field trip leaders will try to get everyone back to the Convention Center by 1 p.m.

If outside collecting is not your interest, the Club has educational speakers scheduled daily at 1:30 p.m. in Training Room #1. On Satuday at 1:30 p.m.Tiffany Santos of the Zuhl Petrified Wood Museum at NMSU will present "Dimetrodon: Not a Dinosaur, but just as Cool!". On Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Terry Humbolt and Chris Saxmen will discuss "Relics of the Hard Rock Miners". On Monday at 1:30 p.m. Kelsey McNamara of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology Mineral Museum will present "The New Mexico Bureau of Geology: Your State Geologic Survey".

If you want to discover your inner artist, there will be jewelry making demonstrations everyday in the Archery Room at the back of the Convention Center. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to Noon, Trina of Trina's Rock Shop will demonstrate how to create a Tree of Life Pendant. Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. Ken Sexton will demonstrate how to make a cabochon. On Sunday from 10 a.m. to Noon Trina of Trina's Rock Shop will demonstrate how to create a Wire Woven Cabochon Bracelet. Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m., Ken Sexton will demonstrate how to make a Cabochon. On Monday from 10 a.m. to Noon Trina of Trina's Rock Shop will demonstrate how to create a Wire Wrapped Pendant.

Club Greeters will be at the front doors to assist you and direct you to your interest location. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the Lion's Club at the Convention Center. There will be 40 Vendors with awesome items for you to purchase. Also during the Labor Day Weekend, Silver City MainStreet will be hosting the annual Taste of Downtown from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday September 1 as well.
