What:    Western New Mexico University Office of Veterans Affairs is hosting its annual Walk for the Heroes on October 21, 2022. In doing so, the university will be honoring thirty-four fallen veterans from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, most of whom are Grant County, NM residents. The intent of this event is to honor veterans by symbolically fulfilling their final mission, carrying on their legacy in recognition of their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families.

There will be a 5k (3.1 miles) Walk for the Heroes through the Boston Hill trail system. Participants in the 5K can walk, run, or ruck. There will also be a one-mile Honor March on the beautiful WNMU Silver City Campus for those unable to make the Boston Hill trails.

Free food and drinks will be provided. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Water and health stations provided by local EMTs and WNMU School of Nursing and Kinesiology will be located along the track to ensure the health and safety of all participants.

When:   October 21, 8:00 AM check-in begins, 10:00 AM walks begin

Where:  WNMU Silver City Campus, Walks will begin and end at the Juan Chacón Building parking lot.

Cost: $20 registration made payable to WNMU Foundation-Veteran Resource Fund
