More Happenings in the Mining District!

by Mary Walker

I wanted to remind everyone, especially those interested in art/drawing, that there is one more free art class taking place at the Bayard Public Library on Wednesday, December 19 at 3:00 p.m. Professional Walt Disney-trained advertising illustrator Dug Sitowski is presenting the adult class and providing another artist to present to the children. I went this week and really enjoyed it, getting some very helpful instruction and ideas.

Everyone is invited! Bayard's First Annual Community Christmas Gathering takes place on Saturday, December 22, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.  Christmas caroling, music, free hot chocolate, hot cider and even roasting marshmallow - how fun! You are invited to join in at the triangle below Lotta Burger (at the corner of Hurley Street & Tom Foy Blvd.) If you have any questions, contact Louis Baum, 313-5767.

Hopefully, this will be the start of a wonderful new Christmas tradition for out town. This would also be a great night to drive around and see all the Christmas and holiday lights.

Starting off 2013:
With 2012 drawing to its end, we will soon be thinking about taxes and making preparations to file them. The good news is that AARP will be volunteering their time to provide free tax preparation at the Bayard Public library on Thursdays and Saturdays from 9:30-3:00 p.m. This will begin January 31 and run through April 13.  In general, if your income is $60,000 or less you will probably qualify for free tax preparation.  More information to follow.  Check out their website for updated information: bayardpubliclibrary.org.

Till next time,
Mary
