During January, Literacy Link - Leamos gave away 6,692 new books to children in seven area elementary schools and 425 second-hand books to clients of the food pantries.   The children's books are granted free from First Book organization in Washington, DC.   Literacy Link - Leamos must pay shipping and handling fees.  Nineteen volunteers worked on this project.  The project is supported by the Silver City Rotary Club and Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Company. 
 
The third grade class Of José Barrios Elementary School is listening to the LL-L founder, Caroline Baldwin, while the teacher, Ms. Piercy, is looking through the new collection of books.
