Next time you head to the Gila National Forest through Pinos Altos, you will see a large white sculpture, "In the Shelter of His Wings," on the right side of the road. The taller than life-size statue stands just beyond the small cemetery. A gate in the fence invites you to stop, sign in, and comment on the statue.

The name of the statue is based on two psalms: Psalm 61:4 and Psalm 9, which invite those seeking refuge to "shelter under His wings."

Doug Bryant, the sculptor and artist, is retired from teaching, with his last position serving as art teacher and principal of Agape Community Christian School.
