On May 15,2014, area Girl Scout Leaders and Community Partners were recognized at the year-end leader appreciation banquet. Several special honors were extended. Mistress of Ceremonies was Serina Pack, member of the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, past member of Troop 834 and Gold Awardee. Annette Toney, membership and marketing, helped with the event, including the banquet dinner being prepared and served by the Copper Rose Rainbow assembly.
Recognitions for the evening included presentation of the Leader Honor Pin, Leader Appreciation Pin, Community Partner recognitions and others. The Honor Pin, one of the highest honors a leader can receive, recognizes an individual's exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in more than one geographic area. Tammi Windsor, with over 30 years of Girl Scouting, who is a lifetime member, received this special honor. She is an "exceptional volunteer truly living by the Girl Scout Law," helping with the Service Unit, co-leader of a very busy junior troop and served on the council cookie committee and the Grant County Cookie Coordinator.
The Appreciation Pin was awarded to two leaders. It is one of the highest honors an individual can receive based on their service in delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in one geographic area. Heidi Hunte was one of recipients who has been a member of Girl Scouting for over 10 years serving as a co-leader and seldom missing an activity. She has "had a positive influence and helped shaped the lives of girls."
The other recipient for the Appreciation Pin was Ann Pavlakovich with over 30 years of service with Girl Scouting. She currently is a co-leader to a troop and has been a past leader to all ages of girls. She has helped to arrange many field trips including taking the girls to visit the EMT's to learn about First Aid and to a vet to learn about animals.
Community Partners recognized for their support of Girl Scouts included Kiwanis, Desert Springs Physical Therapy, America Legion, Silver City Radio and Silver Health Care Gardening Dome. Other recognitions for the evening included recognizing Service Unit officers including Tammy Cross-Service Unit Manager, Misty Sadberry-Event Coordinator, and Jane Kruse-Treasurer. Tami Winsor was also awarded special recognition for her tremendous dedication of time and effort to manage the cookie product sales this spring with over 23,000 boxes of cookies being sold from this area.
The evening included a special speech delivered by Serina Pack, called "Let It Be Me" and showcased the positive impact women can make in our communities and world with the Mary Kay story and also how a former Gold Award Girl Scout from Texas and past Rainbow Girl, Anita Garrett Roe, was just named this past year as Mary Kay's top seller of over one million in sales and recognized was for her efforts to help establish a 1-800 battered women's help line through the Mary Kay foundation. Serina shared the impact leaders in youth organization can make in shaping the lives of others in positive ways.
There are 12 troops with almost 200 girls in the area. Leaders include: Troop 49 -Leah Ann Laney and Pamela Grijalva; Troop 142-Amy Williams, Ann Pavlakovich, and Dayna Jones; Troop 196-Martha Gomez-Johnson, Linda Ferrara, Alia Gallegos, and Maigan Toney; Troop 278-Rosa Terrazas and Margie Ford; Troop 302-Tammy Windsor and Tammy Cross; Troop 307-Lindsey Skinner and Candice Ludvigson; Troop 311-Anisa Chappell Brabson, DaVonna McCauley and Ginger Trevizo; Troop 323-Misty Sadberry and Bertha Gavaldon; Troop 352-Natividad Urbina and Tricia Moon; Troop 370-Nadine Chavaria and Rita Torres; Troop 489-Jane Kruse; and Troop 834-Sabrina Pack and Heidi Hunte.
