Lone Mountain 4-H Club member Tanah Lowe earned the Senior Division High Point at the Southwest District Horse Show this past weekend. The event was hosted by Dona Ana County 4-H at the Armstrong Equine Services arena in La Mesa, NM, and is a qualifying competition for the New Mexico State Fair Horse Show scheduled in September.

Lowe earned a total of 39 points and placed first in four of the nine events she rode including Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, Hunt Seat Equitation and Reining. She rode her eleven-year-old gelding, A Unique Source (aka "Straight"). Lowe also placed first in the Western Pleasure Futurity with her two-year-old gelding, Von Sugarman (aka "Rio"). She plans to continue the Futurity competition at the New Mexico State Fair. The Futurity program requires that the 4-H member be the only one to train or ride the nominated horse. Lowe obtained the colt as a weanling and completed ground work regularly until he was ready to begin riding. This district contest marked the first time Lowe rode Rio in competition.

Lowe is also competing with 4-H in Hippology, Horse Bowl, Horse Judging, and Team Demonstration, and plans to compete at the 4-H State Conference in Las Cruces next month.

Lowe is the daughter of Pat and Nora Lowe of Silver City. She is a senior at Silver High School.
