On Saturday, July 12 the Jacob Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted the re-dedication of the Historic Marker at the Catwalk, just outside of Glenwood, New Mexico. The Historic Marker was originally dedicated in 1966 and recently in need of repair. Once the repairs were completed, the marker was reinstalled and there was a good reason to celebrate the team effort that brought this project to completion.

The re-dedication opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag lead by Michael Barger, President of the New Mexico State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Robert Shanks, with the Glenwood District Forest Service Headquarters was instrumental in coordinating the project. Shanks spoke at the re-dedication and talked about, how the Historic Marker had to be taken down when flooding of Whitewater Canyon was anticipated. Shanks contacted Jacob Bennett Chapter Regent Lucy Whitmarsh and worked out getting needed repairs of the Historic Marker completed.

To commemorate the event, Steven Brown, American Legion Post 82 in Reserve New Mexico installed a display of American Flags and Pennants that were flown during the American Revolution. Brown spoke about each of the items in the display and explained that he arranged the display in honor of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Patricia Barger, New Mexico Daughters of the American Revolution Historic Preservation Committee Chair, spoke about the significance of Historic Preservation to the Daughters of the American Revolution and specifically about the preservation of the historic marker at the Catwalk. The interpretive marker describes historic mining activity in Whitewater Canyon.

The re-dedication was followed by a picnic lunch and sharing of information regarding the Dedication Ceremony that was held in 1966 when the Historic Marker was first installed at the Catwalk.
