In celebration of National Health Center Week and in recognition of this year's theme, "Local Engines for Healthier Communities", Hidalgo Medical Services is proud to hold its first annual Health Center Day on Wednesday, August 20th, from 9 AM until noon.

To celebrate the special role that community health centers play in the nation's well-being and public health, five of the HMS Clinics – Bayard, Cliff, Mimbres, Silver City and Lordsburg will be offering a morning full of outdoor activities showcasing some of the services offered by HMS in southwest New Mexico.

Free Health screenings will include blood glucose, oral health, blood pressure readings, and BMI (Body Mass Index). In addition, HMS will offer patient portal registration, Medicare application information, bone density screening information, car seat education, cooking demonstrations, and voter registration. Medical, dental and mental health departments will all be participating. At the larger clinics of Lordsburg and Silver City, additional activities will involve the HMS staff chiropractor, cardiologist and pulmonologist.

Across the country, over 21 million people are getting health care at nearly 9,000 community health center sites in every state and territory. Here in New Mexico, Hidalgo Medical Services has been a federally qualified community health center since 1997, serving patients who have private insurance, coverage through a public program like Medicaid or Centennial Care, or no insurance at all.

Open to patients and non-patients, HMS wants the entire community to come out and join in the festivities. Music, food, vendors and door prizes will be available!
