Former Silver City Mayor, Terry Fortenberry, Democrat, will be seeking the office of NM State Representative District 38. Terry served as Mayor of Silver City for 6 years from 2000 to 2006. Terry has lived in Silver City for over 50 years and along with his wife, Jean, have two grown children, Chris and Tracey. Terry and Jean will be grandparents for the first time in July 2014.

As former Mayor, Terry says his only pledges are to be fair, honest and accountable, to work hard for each citizen and to maintain a government for all citizens. He intends to carry that same promise to the constituents of District 38. In announcing his candidacy, Terry emphasized that “I am eager and committed to working for the people of District 38. I will strive to bring a different and new change to this office with a new vision.”

After serving more than 25 years as a law enforcement officer, Terry retired from Silver City Police Department as a Captain. He also was elected and served as the FOP state-wide president, a position he held for four years, and represented them on various policy issues at the local, state and federal levels. “My whole career has been in public service and I would like to continue serving," Terry commented “I believe that opposing sides can work together with the spirit of doing what is best for New Mexico.”

Terry is supportive of measures dealing with public safety, vocational training initiatives to enhance our workforce, support of our retirees and veterans and creating an economic environment for New Mexico to be able to compete for good jobs and maintain the jobs that are currently in our state. In District 38, the mining jobs, Western NM University, the arts and culture district, our retiree base, tourism, the Gila National Forest and especially the numerous small businesses have been the backbone for creating our economic base. I intend to support all these sectors and others by working with all stakeholders to help all three counties grow economically.”

“I am excited for the challenge that lies ahead and I am more inspired and committed to work hard every single day for the constituents of District 38. I am truly honored to be a candidate and welcome the opportunity to discuss my candidacy for State Representative with any individual, groups or organizations.”
