Silver City, NM – An old tradition is being revived with the honoring of five Western New Mexico University students into the Student Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place Thursday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m. in the Global Resource Center.
 
Reintroduced by the Division of Student Affairs, each year WNMU will honor exemplary students who excel in several areas including academic achievement, community involvement and participation in campus life.
 
“It is with great excitement and pleasure that we honor these students,” said Isaac Brundage, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. “They all exemplify characteristics that have allowed them to rise to the top.”
 
The 2013 class of inductees are Samantha Brown, Katelyn Dean, Camille Hawkins, Marcia Molano and Tara Tucker.

Samantha Brown is a Silver City native. She is graduating this spring with a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. While at WNMU, Brown was involved with Student Accountants and Business Administrators, serving as the organization’s secretary and historian. Brown has received several honors including her induction into the Theta Upsilon Chapter of the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society. Brown is graduating with honors.

 
Katelyn Dean is originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico. She is majoring in English and Secondary Education and expects to graduate in May 2014. Her current grade point average is 4.0. Dean is active at WNMU serving as an Orientation Leader, Student Ambassador, facilitating campus tours and acting in theatre productions. Dean is the treasurer for the Native American Club.Prior to arriving at WNMU, Dean served in a foreign missionary for teacher development in schools in Guatemala.
 
Camille Hawkins is a senior majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology. Hawkins is originally from Show Low, Arizona. She was appointed by Governor Susan Martinez to be a WNMU Board of Regent member in January. While at WNMU, Hawkins has served as a member of the Pre-Med Club. She received the Jesse Bingaman Science Scholarship and is graduating with 3.93 grade point average. Hawkins transferred from Northern Arizona University where she was named to the Dean’s Academic List for six semesters.
 
Marcia Molano is from Silver City, New Mexico. She is a graduate student who earned a baccalaureate degree in business and a Masters of Business Administration degree from WNMU. Molano has a 4.0 grade point average. Outside of the classroom, Molano has served in student government four several years serving as the organization’s president for two years and is a member of the Delta Mu Delta National Business Honor Society. Molano was a member of the presidential search committee that eventually recommended Dr. Joseph Shepard to be hired.
 
Tara Tucker is a Peoria, Illinois native. She is graduating this spring with a baccalaureate degree in Psychology and 3.9 grade point average. During her time at WNMU she has presented at regional conferences and volunteered in Grant and Hidalgo counties as a victim advocate for Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services. Tara was involved in several clubs at WNMU serving as president, was a senator in student government and is a lifetime member of Psi Chi Honor Society.
 
 
Western New Mexico University has served the people of the state of New Mexico and its surrounding areas as a comprehensive, regional, rural, public coeducational university since 1893 and serves a student body diverse in age, culture, language and ethnic background.
