Rain falls on west side of Silver Fire burn scar, flood advisory issued, may be updated to warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN EL PASO HAS ISSUED AN

* ARROYO AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
  NORTH CENTRAL LUNA COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO...
  NORTHEASTERN GRANT COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO...

* UNTIL 1115 PM MDT


* AT 311 PM MDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
  THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA. DOPPLER
  RADAR ESTIMATED UP TO A HALF INCH OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ON THE WEST   
  SIDE OF THE SILVER FIRE BURN SCAR...WITH ADDITIONAL RAINFALL ON    
  THE WAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER THE BURN AREA SHOULD RANGE FROM     
  0.50 TO 1.0 INCHES IN THE NEXT HOUR. THIS WILL BE ENOUGH TO CAUSE  
  FLOODING IN CANYONS AND DRAINAGES THAT FLOW INTO THE MIMBRES       
  RIVER... INCLUDING MCKNIGHT...NOONDAY...AND GALLINAS CANYONS. THE  
  MIMBRES RIVER WILL ALSO SEE ENHANCED FLOWS SEVERAL HOURS FROM      
  NOW...ENOUGH TO MAKE RIVER CROSSINGS DANGEROUS EAST AND SOUTH OF   
  STATE HIGHWAY 35.

* LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE...
  SAN LORENZO...
  COONEY...
  CAMP THUNDERBIRD...
  SHERMAN...
  SAN JUAN...
  FAYWOOD...
  MIMBRES...
  IRON CREEK CAMPGROUND...
  ROCKY CANYON CAMPGROUND...
  BLACK CANYON CAMPGROUNDS...

RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING TO
OCCUR...ESPECIALLY ALONG SMALL STREAMS AND NEAR LOW WATER CROSSINGS.

THIS FLOOD ADVISORY MAY NEED TO BE UPGRADED TO A FLASH FLOOD
WARNING...ESPECIALLY IF RAINFALL AMOUNTS SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEED 1 INCH
OVER THE WEST SLOPES OF THE BLACK RANGE LATER TODAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. IT ONLY TAKES A FEW
INCHES OF SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.
