The Silver City Police Department has partnered with the Silver City Neighborhood Alliance (SCNA) to counter malicious vandalism in the historic downtown area.  Friday morning, September 6, in a burst of energetic cleaning and painting exuberance, members of the "Graffiti Gone" group of SCNA, spearheaded by president and founder Kathy Anderson, quickly transformed a vandalized wall into a freshly painted one as part of this effort.

The wall is in the back of the building at 300 N. Bullard that faces the Big Ditch, an area that downtown merchants and the SCPD acknowledge is rife with drug dealers, panhandlers, and other miscreants.  The partnership between the SCPD and SCNA, as well as the downtown merchants' Safety and Security Task Force, is a major step in developing solutions to de-criminalize, beautify, and revitalize Silver City's historic downtown area.  These joint efforts are anticipated to make the downtown more attractive to residents and tourists alike, thereby improving the economic health of Silver City and its surrounding areas in general.

Chief Reynolds stated that it was a "great program and partnership, and it is especially gratifying to see Silver City's citizens get involved."
