Editor's Note: This is a warning to anyone living in the wildland-urban interface that with the tall dead grass in much of the area, homeowners should be trimming fuels around their houses.

Situation: Numerous fire crews from Chaves County are responding to a grass fire near Darby and Lincoln Roads. Approximately 20 houses are nearby but there is no word yet on evacuations. The fire is being driven by warm temperatures and high winds. No cause has been determined at this time.
