Lynda Aiman-Smith announced her intention today to run for the Silver City Town Council seat in District 2.
 
“I have the energy, enthusiasm and experience to serve the residents of Silver City and am encouraged by all the support I have received for my candidacy for Town Council,” said Aiman-Smith. The New Mexican native has extensive business experience and is a strong proponent of inclusive community local economic development. She is a founding member of the Local Investment Opportunity Network which now has over $200,000 invested in local small businesses and non-profits.

 
“Silver City is a wonderful community, facing some challenges and opportunities that I am ready and willing to work on. My skills in research, writing, and facilitating community processes can be of service to our town,” she further stated.

The former corporate manager has been a University educator and researcher for the past 20 years. She has owned her home in Silver City’s District 2 since 2003, and has been involved with numerous community organizations and activities.

An opponent of the recent GRT tax increase proposal and any proposed future Gila River diversion, Aiman-Smith is a strong proponent of more community involvement in local decision-making. “I will seek out community input for improving Silver City and will be an active member of the Council,” she said.
