At the 12th Annual Glenwood Dutch Oven Cook Off, cooks from all over New Mexico and several from Arizona took over the Community Park in Glenwood, to set up their "camps" and cook everything from stews to breads to desserts in Dutch ovens over wood fires.
About 16 teams competed for prizes and bragging rights in Fancy Fixin's, Camp Cookie and Tenderfoot categories.
At least 20 vendors and organizations were on hand to sell items or provide information to the hundreds of people who wandered the grounds, making new friends and meeting old ones. The park equipment was well utilized by the kids among the visitors and belonging to the cooks and volunteers. Men worked hard at horseshoes, and it was obvious some of them were well practiced.
The smell of wood fires and savory, as well as sweet, dishes filled the air. Yum!
