According to Lt. Michael Aguirre of the Grant County Sheriff's Office, seven bicyclists were involved in a Tour of the Gila accident on this, the first day of the race. It happened within Catron County during the race to Mogollon.

Two bicyclists were medevaced, one to a hospital in Arizona and the other one, unknown to which hospital. The other five were transported to Gila Regional Medical Center, where they are being treated. A call to the Catron County Sheriff's Office was not helpful, as they said the accident happened in Grant County. Cell phone service is spotty to non-existent in many parts of Catron County.
