The Youth Mural Program dedication on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2023, began at the MainStreet Plaza by the restroom, which was the first mural completed of the three to be dedicated.
Youth Mural Program Organizer Diana Ingalls Leyba said the project began when Charmeine Wait served as Silver City MainStreet director. "She wanted a decorated restroom. We decided that tile was the best medium and local artist, Zoe Wolfe, led the project, with Carol Brady and Teja Clark helping."
Wolfe said: "It was nice to work on one focused on clay. Especially because it was dimensional and wrapped around the building. I had an amazing team of young women. The biggest challenge for me was learning their names."

At the Sept. 14, 2023 Grant County Commission work session, Deputy Assessor Raul Turrieta said he had received from the state of New Mexico the 2023 property tax rate in mills. “It looks just fine. Looking at the increases, in Bayard it increases by 2 mills because of the construction bond for Cobre Consolidated Schools. In 1 In and 1 Out, they are pretty much the same, with residential slightly up and commercial the same.”
With no questions, the commissioners went into county reports, with the first report given by Detention Center Administrator Joseph Andazola. He reported two new officers in training, with three officer openings, but he had interviewed five for the vacant positions. “We hired Dezinae Salas to fill the presumptive eligibility position. She started Monday, Sept. 11, 2023. She was in training yesterday and we plan to bring her to introduce her when she is comfortable in the position.”

The Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority advised the Silver City Police Department of a reported robbery which occurred around 4:41 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, near Pizza Hut off W. Highway 180. GCRDA stated a juvenile male was inside Pizza Hut crying and asking someone to call the cops.
The responding officer, according to an SCPD incident report, noted the male child's left cheek was red and his nose was bleeding. The victim told the officer he had an argument earlier with another kid on the bus and was on his way to Family Dollar to buy his brother a birthday gift. When he got there, the child said, an adult male got out of a black car and asked if he knew the child he had had the argument with. The victim stated, "Yes, he did," and the man slapped him in the face.
