Silver City, NM – On Saturday, May 3, Silver City's Tour of the Gila, partnered with the MainStreet Project, will host the Downtown EXPO during the Criterium races from 10 am until 6 pm in the Historic Downtown district.

Located between Morning Star and the old Western Stationers building, EXPO organizers provide spectators, families and racers fun activities and entertainment throughout the day, alongside continuous racing on the downtown streets.

"When we looked at the EXPO, we asked ourselves 'How can we add to this great day of racing'," explained race director Jack Brennan. "Our aim is to present local musicians, a variety of vendors, food selections and a fun activity area for children, encouraging spectators to have a great time."

For 2014 a giant jumping obstacle course for children will be part of the days' entertainment. Provided by A-List Fun Jumps and Party Supplies in Las Cruces, the 875 square foot obstacle course will be positioned between local vendors and food vendors and will be free of charge. Other children's activities include the Kiwanis bicycle rodeo from 9 am - noon, Crafts at the Silver City Museum from 2 - 3 pm and the ever popular Citizen Races at midday.

Music begins at 11 am with a music ensemble presented by WNMU Music Professor Danny Reyes, followed with local singer songwriters Melanie Zipin and Jeff LeBlanc around 1:30 pm. Female ragtime/Americana group 'The Greenwood Misses' will follow ending the day's roster from 4 pm until 6 pm. Music will be positioned next to an enclosed beer and spirits garden, with beverages provided by local craft brewers and distillery 'Little Toad Creek.'

Racing starts on Saturday, May 3, at 8 am with vendors ready for business at 10 am. Slots for food service trucks and all vendors are still available. For vendor applications, please visit http://www.tourofthegila.com/expo-vendor-info/; email expo@tourofthegila.com or call 575-313-7016.
