LOCAL, STATE CANDIDATES TO SPEAK AT MONTHLY MEETING

Silver City - The Grant County Republican Party will be hosting two candidate speakers at its next public meeting on Thursday, April 10 at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting will take place at the party's new headquarters at 3 Rio De Arenas Drive, located next to the Snappy Mart in the old Wrangler's restaurant location.

Guest speakers include local sheriff candidate Ray Tavizon and candidate for State Auditor Robert Aragon. Born and raised in Albuquerque, Aragon is a lawyer in private practice since 1988.

He served in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 1979-1983 and again from 1985-1987. He served as a member of The House of Appropriation and Finance Committee from 1979-1983 and as Vice Chairman of the House Appropriation Committee from 1985-1987 and as Co-Chairman of The Joint House/Senate Interim Education Reform Committee in 1986.

Aragon was President of the Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents (1991) and Member of the board from 1991-1996. He was a member of the New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation Board of Directors from 1992-1994.

He was a member of the City of Albuquerque Chamber Revision Task Force, Vice Chair 1989 and served on the Transition Team for Mayor of Albuquerque, and also on Transition Teams for Governors of both political parties. He served on the Bernalillo County Tax Protest Board in 1995.

Robert has been a Member of the New Mexico Board of Finance from 2011 to present.

The meeting is open to the public.
