Desert Alive & Native Plant Sale at Rockhound State Park - Apr. 12

Deming, NM – Join the Friends of Rockhound State Park for their annual Desert Alive and Native Plant sale Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.

A wide selection of native plants including Flame Acanthus, Apache Plume and Pink Honeysuckle will be for sale, and prices range from $7 - $25.

"Our Friends Group will have master gardeners available to help people make selections," said Rockhound State Park Manager Robert Apodaca. "We want people to enjoy the park and leave with lots of native plants for their yards and the knowledge of how to care for them."

While at the park, the public is invited to enjoy the unique geology and tour the native garden. Guest speaker and City of Rocks State Park manager Gabe Medrano will talk about plant species and how native plants can be used.

Revenue from the plant sale goes back to the park for school group programs, interpretive program speakers, music in the park, and materials for trails. Funds also help with overall maintenance of the park.

The Friends of Rockhound is a non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to enhance, preserve, and promote the use of Rockhound State Park.

From Deming, take NM11 South for 5 miles, then go east on NM 141 (Rockhound Road) for about 9 miles.
