Best Practices Will Be Shared By Local Social Media Leaders

Silver City, NM – Western New Mexico University is hosting the third annual Social Media Day Silver City event on Monday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the Curious Kumquat.

The free event is an informal and fun annual occurrence for small business and non-profit leaders looking to sharpen their social media skills.

"Each year we partner with a small business and this year the event will take place in the outside eating area of the Curious Kumquat," said Abe Villarreal, WNMU Director of Communications.

The event will include presentations of successful social media strategies by WNMU, the Curious Kumquat and the Silver City Sun-News. Beer and wine will be available for purchase by the host site. A business card drawing for prizes and other interactive activities are planned.

"Our event sponsor is the Silver City Sun-News and we are excited to partner with one of our local news providers who has a large social media presence in Silver City," added Villarreal.

Earlier in the day, the Grant County Community Health Council (GCCHC) will host a Facebook Your Business or Non-Profit workshop from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at GCCHC offices on 214 N. Black Street. The hand-on workshop is limited to 10 participants. RSVP by contacting kendraclone@gmail.com.

Social Media Day was created by Mashable in 2010 to bring awareness to the digital revolution. Hundreds of cities across the world hold simultaneous events in celebration of the social media impact on media, business and community. Updates for the Silver City event will be available on Twitter @WNMU and @SCSunNews.

The Curious Kumquat is located at 111 E. College Avenue.
