SILVER CITY, N.M. -- The Silver City Ranger District implemented a temporary closure for Cherry Creek and McMillan Campgrounds located off New Mexico State Highway 15 effective immediately.

Due to flooding concerns in Cherry Creek as a result of the Signal fire, forest officials made the determination to close the campgrounds to ensure public safety. The low-water crossing entrances at these campgrounds pose a flooding safety hazard to visitors. All other campgrounds remain open on the Silver City Ranger District.

Forest Service personnel encourage the public to plan before they go into the forest during the monsoon season months from July through September 30. Visitors should check with local ranger district offices for site conditions and closures, along with the national weather service for weather conditions prior to venturing into the forest and recreation areas.
