El Vado Lake State Park is Open
Sands Cove and South Point Areas are Temporarily Closed

TIERRA AMARILLA, NM - New Mexico State Park Division officials announce that El Vado Lake State Park is open, however the Sands Cove and South Point areas of the park will be closed to vehicle access beginning August 3, 2012. These undeveloped camping areas are located in the southwest portion of the park. Receding water levels have left these areas a significant distance from the water and are not being used by the public. The closure will allow park staff to concentrate efforts on maintaining the portions of the park that are being used by the public as well as save the time and resources necessary to patrol the area. The north El Vado boat ramp is also closed due to the low water level. These closures will be in effect until lake levels rise sufficiently to allow watercraft access to the area.

El Vado Lake State Park is 17 miles southwest of Tierra Amarilla via NM 112.
