The House Judiciary Committee substitute for House Bill 74, sponsored by Rep. Roberto Gonzales (D-Taos-42), was introduced for third reading on the floor. The bill seeks to preserve affordable housing by amending the Affordable Housing Act, and provides for enforcement of the act and penalties for violation of the act. It passed 67-0, and will move to the Senate.
House Joint Memorial 25 as amended, sponsored by Rep. Elizabeth Thomson (D-Bernalillo-24), was introduced for third reading on the floor. This memorial has its origins in an Interim Legislative Health and Human Services Committee hearing regarding the transmission of Hepatitis C and other viruses traced back to unsafe injection practices. The bill suggests to boards of certain healthcare professions that they make continuing education regarding safe injection practices a condition of license renewal. The memorial passed the House by a vote of 63-2.
House Bill 10, a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Speaker of the House W. Ken Martinez (D-Bernalillo, Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, Socorro & Valencia-69) and Rep. Bill Rehm (R-Bernalillo-13), was introduced on the floor today. HB 10 would establish a lifetime ban on convicted felons owning firearms or other dangerous devices. It has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee.
House Bill 514, sponsored by Rep. Elizabeth Thomson (D-Bernalillo-24) and Rep. Mimi Stewart (D-Bernalillo-21), was introduced into the legislature today. This bill prioritizes the health of New Mexico's elementary-school students by ensuring that every school with 300 or more students employs a school nurse. HB 514 was referred first to the House Education Committee, then the House Appropriations and Finance Committee.

House Judiciary Substitute for House Bill 77, sponsored by Rep. Miguel Garcia (D-Bernalillo-14), was withdrawn from the House Appropriations and Finance Committee today. In the final version that passed out of the House Judiciary Committee, the bill that closes Gun Show loopholes will now go to the floor for debate and a vote.
House Bill 57 as amended, sponsored by Rep. Debbie Rodella (D-Rio Arriba, Taos-41), passed out of the House Judiciary Committee on Friday after an amendment to slightly reduce the proscribed penalties for vandalism and theft of cable hardware. The bill is now on the calendar to be heard on the floor.
