A new short film is coming to Deming, NM to be shot from February 20 to March 3 of this year. The film, "The Journey Home", is directed by Deming's very own Hali Pekron and will include a cast and crew of nearly 20 people!

Set in 2016, the film is about a family who flees to the New Mexico countryside to stay with grandparents on their self-sustaining farm as the United States is experiencing complete turmoil from something people are calling an "economic fallout." With America on the verge of collapse and the family managing their own struggles from the past, a stranger finds his way into their lives. They must decide if he is friend or foe.

This is a student short film for the Sedona Film School. Both Hali and her fiancé/Cinematographer Gabriel Duran have attended the Sedona Film School for the past six months and will obtain a Certificate in Independent Filmmaking this May. Among the other crew members are Ronnee-Sue Helzner, 1st Assistant Director and Silver City resident; Jacob MacArthur, Silver City resident and Grip/Gaff; A.J. Meidlinger (Key Grip/Gaff) and Jake Trovillion (2nd AD), other students at the Sedona Film School; as well as Barb and Terry Pekron (catering) and John and Nancy Gay (catering/transportation), all Deming residents and grandparents of Hali Pekron. The cast will include Arlene Schadel and Kim Jensen, Silver City residents; Lee Perkett, Deming resident; Rob Tode, Albuquerque resident; Gerry Kumpf, Las Cruces resident; Sasha Faust, Santa Fe resident; and George Justice, Gallup resident.

Extras are needed and if you can come out for an afternoon of fun, please be at the Amtrak Station in Deming, NM (400 E Railroad Blvd) on Saturday, March 2, from 1-5pm.
