The Silver City Museum would like to invite you to visit our latest exhibit titled “It’s a Wrap”.   The exhibit will open Friday, March 8, 2013 and will run through July 28, 2013.

“It’s a Wrap!” Silver City Museum’s newest exhibit will showcase the work of the Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective. A regional group of contemporary artisans, the Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective has found time in their busy schedules to create unique, hand-made garments including rebozos, ruanas, serapes, shawls, wraps and ponchos for the exhibit. The Collective’s board president Mary Leen tells us that the "Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective is honored to be featured in this exhibit at Silver City Museum. It is an exciting opportunity for our local fiber artists to showcase their current wraps in a historical dialogue. We hope to meet and greet many guests at the opening reception."

Blending the contemporary with the historical, the museum’s newest exhibit will also explore aspects of the history of fiber arts as it has developed throughout the area. The exhibit opens Friday, March 8, 2013 with a reception from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served. The reception is free and open to the public.

Also on view is the exhibit “A Vessel by Any Other Name.” Items on display take our guests on a journey from the Mimbreños era through the silent era of film with many stops along the way. The exhibit includes many objects from our collection that are rarely seen.

Bring the family. As always, there will be hands-on activities to encourage your children’s curiosity.

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching and interpreting the region's unique history.
