"Search and Rescue on the Border” - Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

JamesHolemanDecember 10, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Search and Rescue on the Border”

James Holeman, founder of Battalion Search and Rescue, will discuss the volunteer humanitarian search and rescue work his organization has been doing for the past five years in the Borderlands of the southwest, primarily in Arizona but most recently in New Mexico as well.

Battalion Search and Rescue’s mission is to search for the lost but not forgotten. Its goal is to save lives and also to provide families and loved ones with the opportunity for closure for those refugees and asylum seekers that did not make it across the southwest deserts.

Holeman will explore the profound challenges with this work, including coordination with the many players involved, from border patrol to indigenous nations, to ranchers and various law enforcement and government agencies. He will emphasize the race against time in locating the deceased in the desert wildlands, and will also relate statistics obtained through this work in Arizona and New Mexico.
