Magdalena T. Aguilera, 84, a Bayard resident, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Silver City Care Center surrounded by her loving family.
The Holy Rosary will be recited Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church by Father Paulus Kao. The Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 O’clock with Father Paulus Kao officiating. Concluding services and inurnment will be held at 1 o’clock in the afternoon Monday, March 24, 2014 at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband Jose Aguilera. All family members and friends are invited and encouraged to attend to bid our sister a final goodbye.
Magdalena was born May 25, 1929 in Vanadium, the second of three children of Apolonio C. Teran and Pasquala Gonzales Teran. Her mother died when Magdalena was only 4 years old. Her father then married Natalia Alvo and she and her older brother Reynaldo and younger sister Valvina resided in Bayard with four younger brothers. In 1954 her father and Jose Alvo bought The Ranchito Tortilla Factory where she began a long career of being in charge of the production of goods that were sold locally and around the region. She was married to Jose Aguilera and they lived in Bayard until his passing. She was a devoted Christian, a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church and avid Bingo player at the parish hall. She was a big fan of Cobre baseball, basketball and little league and also of Duke basketball. She will be remembered as a very caring person. She last worked at the Grant County Senior Companion Program caring for and being a companion to the elderly and the homebound. She worked until she was 82 years old and was very proud of an award she received for being such a faithful and caring worker. If there is one outstanding quality that defines Magdalena’s life it is that of a loving caregiver. She had an extraordinary love and compassion for all people. She was very forgiving and extended her circle of love and compassion to all so that they were soothed by the tenderness of her love. She was always cheerful, never expecting anything in return for the kindness she extended to all. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by 3 brothers Manuel (Leonor) Teran of Deming, Polo (Ruth) Teran of Bayard and Chon (Ramona) Teran also of Bayard; 2 sisters-in-law Luz Teran of Tucson and Amanda Teran of Bayard; many nephews and nieces and a loyal lifelong friend Chavela Rodriguez who helped her unconditionally at the time of need.
She was preceded in death by her father Apolonio, her mother Pasquala and her step-mother Natalia, her husband Jose, 2 brothers Reynaldo Teran of Tucson and Lorenzo Teran of Bayard, 2 sisters Valvina and Maria Luisa both who passed away very young.
