James E. Humiston, 86, passed away Saturday April 12, 2014 in Deming, New Mexico.

Interment will be Tuesday April 15, 2014 at 11 o'clock in the morning Ft. Bayard National Cemetery in Ft. Bayard, New Mexico.

James was born January 23, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the second son born to Dr. Albert Humiston and Mrs Dorothy (Schroyer) Humiston. He and his brother, John, now deceased, grew up in Cedar Rapids. Jim attended Polk Elementary and graduated from Franklin High School in 1946. Following graduation, he completed two years of service in the U.S. Navy as an Electronic Technicians Mate, 3rd Class. In January 1946 he enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and here at Iowa State earned an Animal Husbandry Degree in the School of Agriculture. While in school he met his wife to be, Beth Stettler of Belle Plaine, Iowa. They were married September 10, 1951 in Belle Plaine and were sealed together for time and eternity in the Latter Day Saint Temple in Washington, D.C. in October, 1979. To them were born four sons: Dr. Daniel A. Humiston of Sheboygan, WI, Matthew Humiston (deceased), Barry F. Humiston of Germantown, WI, and Thaddeus A. Humiston of Deming, New Mexico. Jim's career covered many years working in the field of agriculture. This employ was followed by his working as a sales representative in the commercial building maintenance profession for 37 years. For 32 of these years, the family lived in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where their boys attended and graduated from Central High School. In later years, he chose not to retire full time, but to continue working in the sales profession, which he did until the age of 85. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. Two of his claims to fame were#1, riding his bicycle solo across the United States and #2, his membership in the BMW Motorcycle Owners 600,000 Mile Club.
