Marianne Ursula DeMott passed away on April 14, 2014 at 10:30 PM in Deming, NM, from pneumonia complications following various long-term afflictions.

She was born on June 5, 1932 in New Rochelle, NY to Monroe Clifford Van Wart DeMott and Mathilde Fischer DeMott. Her father descended from a long line of American settlers who were Dutch, Huguenot, Scottish, and English, going back to 1660. Her mother was born in Dinkelsbühl, Germany, in Bavaria, into an ancient family who owned the same property outside the city walls for over a thousand years. Marianne graduated from St. Gabriel's High School and the College of New Rochelle, where she received her Master's Degree in Art. While her career began in teaching in the Bronx, she sought to do something different. So, she and her life-long friend, Ruth Magee, a music teacher and concert pianist, moved to Deming, NM to enhance the availability and awareness of classical and modern art and music. There Marianne gave art lessons and devoted herself to painting and designing jewelry. They both became very active in the Deming Art Council from its infancy and in programs at its center. Marianne was very involved in the local Rock Club and sang in the alto section of the choir at Deming's Holy Family Catholic Church until recently.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother Monroe, her dear friend Ruth, and all her first cousins of her generation.

She is survived by her nieces, Suzanne T. Farrell and Michelle M. Rivera, their husbands, Stephen and Nelson, three grandnieces and two grandnephews, and her sister-in-law, Judeth DeMott.

Her Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, April 22, at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Deming, NM. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery,Brooklyn, NY.
