Salvador S. Chavez, 61, a lifelong resident of Deming, passed away Sunday July 20, 2014 at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso.

A celebration of his life will be this Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 10 o'clock in the morning at Living Word Family Church with Pastor Jeffrey Sutton officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.

Sal was born June 1, 1953 in Deming to Manuel and Josefina Salas Chavez. He graduated from Deming High School and afterward worked in the construction industry for some time. Most recently he enjoyed woodworking, being in the outdoors and working on home projects around the house. Sal was a member of Living Word Family Church. He is remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen M. Chavez of Deming; sons, Manuil J. Chavez (Linsay) of Tucson and Salvador D. Chavez of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Joseph Chavez of Tulsa, OK, Frank Chavez of Deming and Anthony Chavez of Tucson, AZ; his sisters, Margaret Mendoza (Richard) of Safford, AZ and Gloria Chavez of Orlando, FL; and 2 grandchildren who he was very proud of, Nathalia and Elliana Chavez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sal was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Pallbearers will be Manuil J. Chavez, Salvador D. Chavez, Joe Remondini, Bobby England, Felipe Barrios and Cuco Mariscal.
