Scholl

Brian Neil Scholl, born May 1, 1960, in Silver City, New Mexico, entered God’s peace at the home he loved on Alabama Street on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.

Brian was the fourth child born to John H. “Jiggs” and Irene Scholl. He is survived by his parents of Silver City; and,  brother John R. Scholl, his wife Susan, and their boys, Nicolas and Griffin, all of Garland, Texas; sister Lu Ann Wilmeth of Silver City and her son, Nathan and his wife Leah, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; brother Steve and wife Chris Scholl, and their son Andy, and their daughter Stefanie, her husband Brett Thompson and their children, Ellen and Jacob, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Brian is also survived by his “sister”, Ida Lucero, and was preceded in death by his “brother”, Lanny Olson and by his beloved dog and constant companion, Joker.

Brian grew up in Silver City and graduated from Silver High in 1978. He attended New Mexico State University, and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Western New Mexico University in 1982. While in high school, Brian began a life long love affair with oil, water color and acrylic painting, as well as other forms of art in which he dabbled. He loved painting with many among the “Who’s Who” of local Grant County and Southwestern New Mexico artists throughout his early years as a painter. Brian lived in Santa Fe for many years and worked for Nambé Mills, painted, gardened for many clients who became his dear friends and catered many meals and parties. He also had a garden of his own which he nurtured for many years using tricks he learned from his maternal grandmother, Opal Cobb and his other “grandma”, Esther Smith. In November 2011, Brian returned to Silver City to help his parents age in the family home Jiggs has lived in for most of the past 87 years. Brian was creative and artistic, and shared his love with his friends and family inspiring them to appreciate the unnoticed beauty in the world around them. His quick wit and humor were his calling card. Never a shrinking violet, Brian always left laughter in his wake. He was a master at improvisation, and brought style and panache to the most mundane situations. The constant comment heard from those who knew him is that they loved him. Brian was a member of the Gila Chapter, Order of DeMolay, and then a perpetual member of Silver City Lodge No. 8, AF&AM. He was also a founding member of C.A.R.P., an organization dedicated to eradication of child labor world wide. Brian was loved deeply, and will be missed dearly by all.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with interment to follow at Memory Lane with a Masonic burial.
