KeelerHHal B. Keeler, 95, peacefully passed away at his residence on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 where he had lived for the past 60 years.

He is survived by his three children Nasa Speer (Bill), Dirk Keeler (Jeannie) and Tya Taylor (Clay); twelve grandchildren Garilee Speer Ogden, Shay Speer Charles, Dane Speer, Garan Keeler, Truitt Keeler, Codi Keeler Dutson, Taylor Keeler Moore, Sam Taylor, Keeler Taylor, Chase Taylor and Caden Taylor. He had 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Hal was preceded in death by his grandson, Ky Speer and his wife of 67 years, Joyce Keeler.

Hal moved to the Deming area from Columbus with his family in 1939. He began farming with his father after he graduated high school. He owned and operated his own farm in his early 20’s. Later, he set a world record with Dekalb Seed Company as the first person to harvest more than 200 bushels per acre in the grain sorghum business.

SalasPPete Lozano Salas, Jr., of Bayard, passed away January 29, 2024 in Bayard. 

Pete was born June 30, 1969 in Silver City to Pete Salas and Theresa Gomez

Pete is survived by his parents, Manny and Theresa Garcia; three sons, Michael Ortega, Dominic Ortega and Anthony Salas; as well as three sisters, Martha Garcia, Barbara Salas and Michelle Carbajal.

At Pete’s request, cremation will take place and no services are scheduled at this time.

ChavezJamesJames Patrick Chavez, 57, Deming resident passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024 at his residence.

Visitation will take place Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church from 9 to 10 o’clock in the morning, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary to be recited by Patsy Leyba at 10. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11 with Father Prakasham Babu officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment will take place Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10 o’clock in the morning where Military Honors will be accorded. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca’s Mimbres Crematory.
