Emily Mona (Moore) Keller, 96, a resident of Dona Ana, NM

KellerEKELLER: Emily Mona (Moore) Keller, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the grand age of 96.  She was living at Desert Peaks Assisted Living in Dona Ana where she had received very good care.  Emily was born in a house near Buckhorn, New Mexico, May 28, 1927.  Years later, after the house was torn down, she would say that she was born under a mesquite bush on Buckhorn Flats.  That was a reflection of the strength and humor that was her lifelong personality.  Quilting has been a passion of hers in her later years.  She also loved being a grama (her spelling).  Emily, also known to many as Emmy, grew up near Buckhorn.  After high school, she moved to Silver City to work at Sears Cleaners.  It was there that she met and then married S. Frank Keller, her partner for life on her birthday in 1949.  They continued to follow Franks career with Ted Brown Construction until 1952.  They moved to Bear Creek near Gila, NM and purchased their lifelong home in 1954.  Emily lived there until 2018 when her declining health caused her to move back to Silver City and then to Las Cruces for assistance.  Emily was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cliff and was a founding member of the McClendon House Senior Center in Gila.  Emily is survived by her daughter, Lora Gose (Grant); her son, Sam (Kathy); her grandchildren, Jami Summers, Jerad Gose (Lauren) and James Gose; her great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mona Moore; a daughter, Emily Lucille (Cindy) Herr; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Acosta (Ronny).

Rudy Madrid, 89, resident of Silver City, NM

MadridRudyOur father, Rudy Madrid has passed away peacefully in El Paso, Texas at Del Sol Medical Center, at the age of 89.  Dad was born May 5, 1934 in Silver City, NM. Raised by his grandparents, Frank and Petrocina Madrid and Aunts and Uncles.

In his youth, he attended Lincoln Elementary School where he made many lasting friendships that extended through his entire life.  Many of them are now his compadres.

Mom and Dad were married 63 years until Mother passed in 2016.  They both raised their children Viola, Rudy Jr., Olga, Bobby and Evie, in the same house they lived in their entire married life.  Dad remodeled our small home with the help of his sons by his side, Rudy Jr. and Bobby.  He would always say, “I built this house, one nail and two by four at a time.” Some of his Compadres and friends would also come by and lend a hand or a can of beer.

He started working at an early age shinning shoes, mowing lawns, delivering newspapers and bagging groceries at the local grocery stores.  To buy school clothes.

When he met our Mother and married Mom, he worked at Clifton Chevrolet, then went to work at Kennecott/Phelps Dodge until he retired as an Acid Plant Operator.  He was also involved in politics for a while.  He was the Democratic Chairman for Grant County for a few years.
